Victoria Keogan is the Director of Aquatics and Fitness at The Club at ArrowCreek in Reno, Nevada.
I took on the exciting role of Director of Aquatics and Fitness at The Club at ArrowCreek in July of 2020, when we first opened our amazing swimming pool and resort-style cabanas. Just over a year later, in the fall of 2021, we broke ground on a great new fitness center that would offer the best Technogym tools and equipment. That space opened to our members eleven months ago, and the effect it’s had on engagement and participation has been astounding.
With two 18-hole championship golf courses, two indoor golf simulators, the swimming pool, bocce ball and pickleball, our members have many entertainment options when spending time with family and friends at ArrowCreek. The new fitness center has been a game-changer, however.
Before the fitness center installation last year, there were no machines or equipment for members to enjoy. We held pool deck yoga classes, as well as Pilates and boot camp-style sessions in our golf performance center, and also hosted a lot of Zoom classes to engage members and keep their minds and bodies in a good place during the peak of the pandemic. In addition, our TPI-certified PGA Teaching Professional Dana DeSarle teaches a TPI Golf Fitness class.
The decision to go with Technogym was made before I arrived after an extensive study of the top fitness equipment brands on the market. The club owners really had an idea for the style they desired in the fitness center. They wanted to enhance the member experience with the new fitness amenity, and they felt Technogym demonstrated that next level of product, technology and service.
The fitness center has a cardio line that greets members when they enter the gym – treadmills, stair stepper, recumbent bike, upright bike and ellipticals. The strength training equipment is in the center of the room – leg press, leg curl machine and hamstring curl machine. Additionally, the outer rim of the space has some specialized pieces, like a Kinesis One machine, skillmill, pulley machine, squat rack and dumbbells. Add to this array of equipment some miscellaneous tools like hand weights and foam rollers, and you have an all-encompassing fitness center that presents the opportunity for a whole new lifestyle based around health and wellness.
We now have Pilates reformer instructors and personal trainers, as well as contracted professionals who teach a variety of special classes, like spin, for which we have 14 Technogym spin bikes and 10 spin classes each week.
The yoga classes and TPI-based sessions are helping our golfers gain mobility, flexibility, strength and stamina. Yoga for Golf and Bro-Ga, for instance, are opening many eyes to the merits of the ancient discipline, something many golfers wouldn’t consider in the past.
Members were excited about the fitness center opening for a long time, so when we opened the doors, a celebratory enthusiasm permeated throughout the club. They were at the entrance waiting to come in at 5:30 am on that very first day. Looking back on the past year, what our club owners had envisioned during the planning stage has definitely come to fruition.
